Our Assessment: The Swedish M/41B sniper rifle represents one of the most respected precision military rifle programs of the mid-20th century, combining the exceptional quality of early Mauser actions with Sweden’s emphasis on accuracy and marksmanship. Built upon selected Model 1896 rifles originally manufactured by Waffenfabrik Mauser in Oberndorf, these rifles were later converted into sniper configurations for Swedish military use. Chambered in 6.5x55mm Swedish, a cartridge renowned for its accuracy, mild recoil, and excellent ballistic performance, the M/41B became highly regarded for its precision and remained in Swedish service well into the Cold War era. This example began life as a 1900 Oberndorf-produced M96 Mauser and was later arsenal reworked in 1955 into the M/41B sniper configuration. The rifle retains approximately 98% of its metal finish with only light handling wear and scattered small marks throughout. The bore remains excellent, showing bright surfaces and strong rifling with minimal visible erosion, supporting its 9.5 out of 10 rating. The stock exhibits only moderate handling wear while remaining structurally sound, and the rifle retains desirable sniper-specific features including the m/55 rear sight configuration, side-mounted optic system, matching mount and base components, and a matching metal scope case.

Altogether, this Swedish M/41B represents a highly desirable example of Scandinavian military precision rifle development, combining pre-First World War Mauser craftsmanship with Cold War-era sniper refinement. Its matching sniper components, strong bore condition, and overall completeness significantly enhance its collector appeal. The rifle stands as one of the most respected military sniper systems built upon the Mauser action and reflects Sweden’s long-standing reputation for precision small arms manufacture and marksmanship doctrine. -R.E.
