Our Assessment: This 1978 Ruger No. 1 chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum with a 26-inch barrel and checkered walnut furniture is a fine example of Ruger’s craftsmanship from that era. Built with a classic single-shot, falling-block action, this rifle embodies simplicity, strength, and elegance. The falling-block design allows for a shorter, more streamlined action compared to bolt-action rifles, making it both aesthetically pleasing and practical for hunting or target shooting. The 7mm Remington Magnum chambering offers excellent ballistics, providing long-range accuracy, high velocity, and enough energy to handle big game effectively.

The 26-inch barrel enhances the 7mm Remington Magnum’s performance, maximizing velocity and downrange energy. With its single-shot action, the rifle promotes deliberate shooting, prized by hunters and marksmen who value precision and accuracy. This 1978 model carries a distinct charm, and its checkered walnut stock with a rich finish represents the traditional craftsmanship Ruger was known for. The walnut furniture also includes fine checkering for a secure grip.

This era of the No. 1 is highly regarded for its build quality, and its vintage appeal makes it a sought-after model for collectors. Combining the elegance of classic American rifle design with the power and reach of the 7mm Rem Mag, this 1978 Ruger No. 1 remains a favorite among enthusiasts who appreciate both style and performance in a single-shot rifle.
