Our Assessment: The Steyr M95/30, also known as the Steyr Mannlicher M95/30, is a bolt-action rifle that was originally produced for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was designed by Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher and introduced in 1895 as an improved version of the 1888-90. The M95/30 is an updated version of the earlier M95 rifle, incorporating improvements based on combat experience during World War I.
One of the distinctive features of the M95/30 is still its straight-pull bolt action as its predecessors instead of the traditional rotating bolt. However, the rifles were chambered in 8x56mmR, a powerful and effective cartridge for its time.
The M95/30 has a five-round integral box magazine and is fed using en-bloc clips. The rifle features a Mannlicher-style stock, which is known for its sleek and ergonomic design. The stock is made of wood and has a distinctive shape, providing a comfortable grip and natural pointing characteristics.
In terms of performance, the M95/30 is known for its reliability and robustness. It has a reputation for being able to withstand harsh conditions and function reliably even in adverse environments. Usually the 95/30’s stocks were cut down to a carbine profile but this rifle retains its elegant long profile.
The M95/30 saw extensive use in various conflicts, including World War II. After the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, many M95/30 rifles were sold or given to other countries, resulting in their wide distribution and use by different nations.
Overall, the Steyr M95/30 is a historically significant rifle that represents the technological advancements of its time. It offers a unique straight-pull bolt action, a powerful cartridge, and reliable performance. Today, it is sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate its historical value and distinctive design. The proof marks on the receiver and stock are still well defined and this rifle has been well cared for over the years. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid!
