Sights / Optics: The front and rear sights have been removed. There is a pair of empty taps on the upper tang where an aperture used to be mounted. A Winchester A5 is mounted to the top of the barrel. The glass is fairly clear and the scope rates in Good condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is two piece wood with a schnabel forend, smooth semi pistol grip, straight comb, and Swiss style metal buttplate. The buttplate shows moderate handling wear. The furniture shows mainly pressure dings and light scratches. The LOP measures 13.5″ from the face of the trigger to the butt. There is a small nick on the left edge of the forend and a small chip taken from the right side of the lower tang where it meets the receiver. The furniture rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is grey and the rifling is lightly worn. There are spots of light pitting scattered throughout the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 65% of its finish. The finish shows edge wear, patina, scrub marks, and surface oxidation. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Stevens Ideal Model Range No. 47 was manufactured between 1896 and 1916 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company, the Ideal series was designed for serious target shooters and marksmen during the golden age of American single-shot rifles. The Model Range No. 47 featured Stevens’ well-regarded falling block action and was frequently encountered on target ranges during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Chambered in .25-25 with a 26 inch barrel, this rifle reflects the precision-oriented design philosophy of the period. Mounted to the rifle is a Winchester A5 telescopic sight, one of the most desirable and historically significant early American rifle scopes. The A5 was widely used by competitive marksmen and hunters during the early 20th century and greatly enhances the rifle’s period appeal. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 5 out of 10, showing wear consistent with age and use. The action functions correctly.
The furniture rates in Very Good condition with solid structure and typical handling wear. This rifle retains approximately 65% of its finish, showing honest wear while maintaining a pleasing overall appearance.
