Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is an Oval cut, low wood stock, with a two rivet handguard, type three barrel band with bayonet lug, a later style rotary safety and a checkered metal buttplate. The LOP measures about 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock has been lightly sanded and refinished. The stock shows scattered lines, compressions, and scratches with a few very small chips in the leading edge of the pommel. There is a visible crack forming from the recoil lug. The upper handguard shows similar wear with no visible chips or cracks. The metal buttplate has lost its finish, turned brown with patina, has semi dulled checkering, and some minor rub wear around the edges. Overall the stock set is in Fair+ to Good condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized and blued.

Finish Originality: Original and refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is visible. There is minor visible pitting in the grooves mainly in the last third of the bore. Our muzzle gauge shows a .05 or as the CMP would state it a 0+. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 97% of its metal finish. A lot of the finish has turned Green / Brown with age and patina. There is minor rub wear present on the friction surfaces of the action and the bolt. The markings range from faint to clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Good to Good + condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

They are all in Good to Very Good condition. The 30 round magazines are unmarked, two are in Very Good condition and one is in Good condition. The rifle also includes a two mag stock mag carrier marked “J.Q.M.D. 1943”, a green canvas sling, the extra rear sight, two mag caps and a canvas carrying case.

Our Assessment: The Standard Products M1 Carbine, manufactured in early 1944, is a fascinating piece of World War II history. Standard Products was one of several contractors tasked with producing the M1 Carbine, and their rifles are particularly sought after by collectors due to their relatively limited production numbers compared to major manufacturers like Inland or Winchester. The early 1944 production date places this carbine firmly in the thick of the war, where it likely served as a lightweight and effective weapon for support troops, paratroopers, and other personnel needing a compact and maneuverable firearm. The Underwood barrel, marked 12-43, reflects the collaborative manufacturing practices of the time, as different contractors often supplied components to meet the massive wartime demand.

The inclusion of a Hillerich & Bradsby stock adds another layer of interest to this carbine. Known primarily for producing Louisville Slugger baseball bats, Hillerich & Bradsby was one of the companies that pivoted to wartime production, crafting stocks for M1 Carbines. This connection to American industry’s wartime effort makes the stock a notable feature for collectors. The rifle’s accessories enhance its appeal and functionality: the green canvas sling and two-magazine pouch are classic wartime-issued items, adding authenticity to the package. The six 15-round magazines and three 30-round magazines provide practical usability for recreational shooting or historical reenactments.

This M1 Carbine represents both the ingenuity and determination of the World War II era, combining practical design with historical significance. Lightweight and chambered in the effective .30 Carbine cartridge, it offered a versatile solution for soldiers who needed more firepower than a handgun but greater portability than a full-sized rifle. For collectors, this Standard Products carbine offers a blend of rarity, historical context, and practical accessories, making it a valuable piece of American military heritage.
