Our Assessment: This matched pair of Ruger Vaquero revolvers, chambered in .357 Magnum and manufactured in 2005, offers a beautiful blend of Old West styling and modern durability. Finished in brushed stainless steel with 4 5/8” barrels, these revolvers feature traditional fixed sights and classic single-action operation, making them ideal for cowboy action shooting or western-style collections. Ruger’s Vaquero line is built with durability in mind, using coil springs and modern metallurgy to handle higher-pressure loads than the original Colt Single Action Army it emulates. These revolvers are consecutively serialized—58-85526 and 58-85527—and have both received custom action work allowing for free-spinning cylinders while the loading gate is open, a preferred feature for competition shooters. Both revolvers are in Very Good condition, with 85526 retaining about 92% of its metal finish and 85527 about 90%. Each shows moderate action wear, faint scratches, and crisp cylinder turn lines, with the expected burn marks on the front of the cylinders from normal use. The bores on both guns are bright with sharp rifling—85526 earns a 9.5/10, with only a minor burr near the muzzle, while 85527 rates 9/10 due to some stubborn fouling near the breech. The smooth walnut grips are in solid shape, showing light handling marks but no chips or cracks. Mechanically, both revolvers are sound, with minimal side-to-side cylinder play in lockup and smooth, tuned actions that feel excellent for single-action work.

Finding a matched, consecutively serialized pair of Ruger Vaqueros in .357 Magnum is a rare opportunity, especially with upgraded actions and factory hard cases included. Whether you’re a cowboy action shooter, collector of classic-style revolvers, or someone seeking durable, modern single-actions with old-world charm, this pair checks all the boxes. Their sturdy stainless construction, crisp bores, and tuned mechanics make them not just collectible, but also ready for the range or competition arena. These revolvers are sure to turn heads—and hit targets—wherever they go. -R.E.
