Our Assessment: Introduced in 1990, the Colt Anaconda was the company’s answer to the heavy-duty double-action revolver market, built on a large frame and engineered to handle powerful cartridges with authority. As part of Colt’s “snake gun” lineage alongside the Python and King Cobra, the Anaconda stood out for its robust construction, full underlug barrel, and modern stainless steel finish. Chambered in .45 Colt, a cartridge dating back to 1873 and originally developed for the Colt Single Action Army, the Anaconda bridges Old West heritage with late 20th century engineering, delivering substantial performance with a smooth double-action system and target-oriented features. Early production examples like this 1993 revolver represent the height of Colt’s large-frame revolver craftsmanship during a period when demand for premium wheelguns remained strong.
This example retains approximately 98% of its original satin stainless finish, with light handling marks and a faint turn line on the cylinder consistent with careful use. The 6″ vent-rib barrel with full underlug provides excellent balance, complemented by the pinned front sight with orange insert and fully adjustable rear sight. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9.75 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The factory rubber grips with Colt medallions remain in Fine condition, showing only light wear with sharp checkering intact. The revolver features a wide target hammer and trigger, and the action functions correctly with solid lockup and only light play when the trigger is depressed. Accompanied by an original blue Colt case and paperwork, this Anaconda presents as a strong example of Colt’s modern large-frame revolver line.
