Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “U.S. / MODEL 1894. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. 10329”. The rear of the bolt handle is marked “S5. The barrel band is marked “U”. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with  Cartouche that says “J.S.A / 1901”

Barrel Length: Approximately 30 Inches..

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set pinned on a raised base. This is a Model 1903 front sight. The rear sight is an adjustable peep sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition 2 piece wood stock , straight comb, straight grip, steel buttplate, grooved foren. 2 sling studs on the bottom of the forend and 1 on the belly of the buttstock. There are several scratches and some dents in the wood. There are no cracks or chips. The LOP is 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in very good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp, there is light erosion in the barrel. The bore rates 9/10

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its current metal finish. The metal shows scrapes, small scratches, on the barrel and on the receiver. The screw heads are sharp. This rifle rates in Very Good Overall condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as intended. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  This Springfield model 1894 Krag was manufactured in 1901. The Cartouche is stamped “J.S.A 1901” JSA are the initials of J. Sumner Adams. J. Sumner Adams, was the Assistant Foreman of the Assembling Room, was assigned inspection duties upon the death of Samuel W. Porter, Master Armorer at Springfield Armory.

The Springfield Krag models were an important part of American military weapons. Used by the U.S. Cavalry and by the U.S. Army during the Spanish American War, These rifles were essential pieces of equipment on the still wild American frontier.
