Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory SAR-48 Match is a rare and desirable pre-ban semi-automatic rifle built on the legendary Israeli FN FAL / Makleon platform. Manufactured by IMBEL in Brazil and imported by Springfield Armory, this particular model is a “heavy barrel” Match variant, made with an Israeli parts kit. Chambered in 7.62 NATO and constructed with high-grade components, the SAR-48 Match is known for its robust construction, accuracy potential, and historical pedigree. With Israeli military markings, wood handguard, and dropped-comb stock, this rifle is an authentic blend of battle-proven design and precision-oriented configuration. This example is in Very Good condition overall, retaining about 96% of its original Springfield parkerized finish with minor thinning and operational wear. The bore remains in solid shape—light gray with semi-sharp rifling and only light erosion, earning an 8.5/10 rating in this writer’s opinion. The wood and polymer furniture shows honest wear with minor chips and scratches but no structural issues. The action is smooth, the gas system is adjustable, and the overall mechanical integrity is sound. Included with the rifle are eight 20-round metric steel magazines, a nylon sling, Israeli tool kit, range bag, and a full complement of spare parts including a piston and springs—making this a complete and range-ready package.

With its pre-ban status, Israeli military lineage, and heavy barrel configuration, this rifle is both a shooter and a collector’s gem. Whether it’s destined for the range or a place of pride in a Cold War-era arms collection, this SAR-48 offers exceptional build quality, accuracy potential, and historical appeal in one rugged and ready package. -R.E.
