Markings: This rifle has been bedded to the stock and some of the markings will be omitted.

The scope is marked “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 4-14×56 3rd Generation Government Model ™ 7.62mm U.S. Pat. D306173 Japan”      

Barrel Length: 22”, 25” with the classic flash hider. 

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable hooded National Match aperture sight set between two protective wings. The rifle has a 6″ picatinny rail mounted to the receiver carrying a Springfield 3rd Gen 4-14x56mm first focal plane BDC reticle scope with objective parallax, green illumination, and 1/4 MOA covered turrets. The sight picture is clear, the light transmission is good, the illuminated reticle functions correctly, the turrets adjust with positive clicks. Overall the scope is in about Excellent condition.   

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is an M1A pattern walnut stock with sling loops, a 13.25” length of pull and a hinged butt plate with storage in the butt. The wood shows minor lines and some small scattered compressions. The fiber upper handguard shows minor handling. The most notable marks are the two small marks on the grip. The butt plate functions correctly however the top screw is not screwed in all the way and appears to be stuck in place. As a result the butt plate is loose. Overall this stock set is in about Very Good+ condition and will rate in Excellent condition once the butt plate is repaired.

This rifle also includes a fiberglass camo M1A stock. This stock shows some scratches, surface level rub wear, and some small chips. There are no cracks. The stock has no sling rings or butt plate. Overall the stock is in Good+-Very Good condition.       

Magazine Quantity & Condition: This rifle includes 12 total magazines. 2 x 10 round magazines both in Very Good condition. 5 x 20 round magazines in Very Good condition and 5 x 20 round magazines that appear to have been stored poorly in plastic bags that show surface rust and oxidation. These 5 magazines are in fair condition.      

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. The feed ramps are smooth and shiny. The grooves show some very minor fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.75/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very minor rub wear. The muzzle device shows some fouling. The bipod shows wear on the friction surfaces. The finish shows some very minor scattered marks. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in about Very Good+-Excellent condition.    

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the 12 magazines, foam lined hard case, alignment gauge, flash hider removal tool, extra stock, bi-pod, scope caps, Bikini scope caps, scope box, two small cases with cleaning supplies and tools.     

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1A was manufactured in October 2001 and originally sold as a MA9102 Standard GI model before being sent to Glen Nelson Custom for conversion into a National Match configuration. Built on the proven M14-pattern platform, the M1A is well regarded for its accuracy potential and traditional design, and National Match upgrades are specifically intended to enhance precision and consistency for competitive or target shooting applications.

This example has been expertly bedded to its walnut stock, improving the interface between the action and stock for increased accuracy. It features National Match iron sights and a refined two-stage trigger with a clean, predictable break. The rifle is also equipped with a Springfield Armory 3rd Gen 4-14×56 Scope featuring a first focal plane BDC reticle, adjustable objective parallax, green illumination, and 1/4 MOA covered turrets.
