Mechanics: The action functions correctly. From http://www.tactical-life.com/firearms/gun-test-springfield-armory-m25-whitefeather-308/ : “The Springfield Armory M25 is built as a custom rifle. Features include a receiver with a rear lug designed to join with a bolt in the stock to securely lock the action and stock together. The stock is a McMillan M3A, which allows adjustment for LOP (length-of-pull) via the use of spacers and for cheek rest position via a knob, which may be loosened to raise or lower the cheek piece. A Krieger heavy carbon steel match barrel of 22 inches with 1-in-10-inch twist is standard for the M25, though a stainless steel Krieger match barrel is available as well. The relatively long muzzle brake/stabilizer is well designed to channel gases upwards so that dirt is not thrown up when shooting prone. One real aid to precision shooting is the two-stage match trigger, which comes from the factory set around 2.5 to 3 pounds, but it may be adjusted between 1.5 and 4.75 pounds.(This example is sitting at 2lbs 10oz) Other aids to accuracy include a welded, custom match gas system, a lapped and fitted bolt, pillar glass bedding, and a custom match op rod spring guide.”
We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes 2×10 round magazines both in Very Good condition, and two additional spacers for the stock. The rifle also includes a replacement adjustable gas plug.
Our Assessment: The Springfield Armory M-25 White Feather Carlos Hathcock Edition is a highly refined, limited-production variant of the M1A/M14 platform, built to honor legendary Marine sniper Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock. This rifle is chambered in .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm NATO) and features a Krieger 1:10” twist match-grade barrel, designed for exceptional accuracy with long-range precision ammunition. The McMillan M3A3 stock provides a rigid, stable shooting platform, while the two-stage trigger is finely tuned, breaking at a crisp 2 lbs. 10 oz., making it ideal for precision shooting. Weighing just under 16 lbs., this rifle is built for accuracy and stability rather than portability. It also includes an adjustable gas system, allowing shooters to fine-tune the rifle’s operation for different ammunition types or suppressed use. Topping it off is a Burris 3-12XTR scope, providing enhanced clarity and precision for long-range engagements.
The M-25 is a modernized version of the M21 sniper rifle, originally developed for U.S. military snipers in the Vietnam War. Unlike standard M14/M1A rifles, the M-25 features a rear-lugged receiver for added rigidity, a match-grade gas system, and hand-fitted components for maximum precision. Carlos Hathcock, the rifle’s namesake, was one of the most decorated Marine snipers in history, with 93 confirmed kills and likely many more unconfirmed. His legendary exploits, including crawling for days through enemy territory to eliminate a high-value target and shooting an enemy sniper through his own scope, cemented his legacy as one of the greatest marksmen in military history. The M-25 White Feather edition pays tribute to his skill, dedication, and impact on modern sniping tactics, making it a highly sought-after rifle among collectors and precision shooters alike.
