Markings: The left side of slide is marked “MODEL 1911-A1 / CAL .40 SW”. The right side of the slide is marked “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY”, along with the Springfield crest. The right side of the frame is marked with Springfield’s address, and the serial number. The bottom of the frame is marked “IMBEL BRAZIL”.
Barrel Length: 5″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated black blade, dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable Novak square notch sight, with two white dots, dovetailed to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece checkered Pachmayr grip, with finger grooves. The grip shows no notable wear. The checkering is well defined, as are the finger grooves. The grip fits tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip rates in Excellent condition.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: 2x 8rd magazines, both of which are in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, with only a few light scratches and dings throughout the metal surfaces. There is some operational wear on the top of the barrel and chamber. Otherwise, the stainless finish is intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. Overall, this pistol rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this pistol, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with its original serial number matching plastic hard case, owner’s manual/paperwork, nylon cleaning brush, and the two magazines as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: Springfield Armory’s 1911-A1 series blends the enduring design of John Browning’s 1911 with modern production techniques and chamberings beyond the traditional .45 ACP. This example is chambered in .40 S&W, a cartridge introduced in 1990 to provide a balance between 9mm capacity and .45 caliber performance, and one that saw extensive law enforcement adoption through the 1990s and early 2000s. Built on the proven Government-length 5 inch platform, this stainless 1911-A1 maintains the classic single action trigger system, steel frame and slide construction, and familiar ergonomics that have defined the pattern for over a century. The adjustable Novak rear sight and dovetailed front sight offer improved sight picture and zeroing flexibility over GI-pattern variants, while the Pachmayr wraparound grip enhances purchase and recoil control.
This pistol retains approximately 98 percent of its original stainless finish, showing only light handling wear and minor operational marks at the barrel hood and chamber. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9.75 out of 10. The Pachmayr grip is in Excellent condition, and both included 8 round magazines rate in Very Good condition.
