Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a red fiber optic insert and is dovetailed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a Les Baer low mount style square notch sight dovetailed and screw set to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered G-10 Les Baer “Shooter” grips by VZ Grips. There are some scattered light handling marks. There are no major defects. The checkering is sharp. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Silver DLC

Finish Originality: Refinished by Nighthawk Custom. A Wilson Combat safety has been installed by Nighthawk Custom.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In my opinion, this bore is a 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is light handling and minor operational wear. There are no major defects. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp. The slide has almost no play to the frame but moves smoothly. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching box, presentation case, four 8-round magazines, the original safety, paperwork including the manual, NHC test target, and work order.

Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. The design was the end-result of a series of developments by famous gun designer John Browning, starting with the Model 1900. The advances made by Browning were revolutionary at the time, and were so successful that they are considered commonplace today. Browning not only developed first a pivoting and then a tilting barrel to allow for a locked system, he developed the concept of “the slide”, which is now synonymous with semi-automatic handguns.

As with any hobby, with the 1911 you can go as far as your pocketbook will take you. Just about every brand has a 1911 on offer and they range from entry-level to high-end, this example is one of the latter. Les Baer is among a small group of the best manufacturers of custom and semi-custom 1911s in the world including Nighthawk Custom, Ed Brown and Wilson Combat. This pistol is an excellent example of why they have earned this reputation. The fit and finish are next level and Les Baer has combined the most desired upgrades with their legendary craftsmanship quality. On top of being an already top-tier pistol from the factory, this Monolith Heavyweight has some special upgrades, including no front slide serrations, no slide markings, a flush cut slide stop, two piece extended magazine well, a solid long match trigger, and upgraded sights. It was then sent to Nighthawk Custom who installed an upgraded safety and gave the pistol a silver DLC finish. All of the features combine for a pistol that is not only damn good looking but should shoot damn well too, Les Baer thinks the same and gave it the 1.5″ guarantee! The standard factory grouping guarantee for a Les Baer is 3” at 50 yards. This Les Baer has been upgraded to a 1.5” grouping guarantee at 50 yards. This pistol looks nearly brand new and is in Excellent condition.
