Our Assessment: This is a Spanish FR8 bolt action rifle. The FR8 (FR standing for fusil reformado) was developed in the 1950s to be used as a training rifle, alongside the FR7, for the forthcoming CETME rifles. The FR8 was based on the Spanish M43 Mauser short rifle. These are equipped with the ability to launch rifle grenades, as well as a faux gas tube under the barrel which was used for storing a cleaning kit and an attachment point for a bayonet. This example was made in 1956 and has a very clear receiver crest. It comes with a green canvas sling and the correct bayonet. There is a small crack at the wrist but the bore is bright and it has deep rifling. This would fit wonderfully into any Spanish surplus or Mauser collection. Please see our photos.
