Our Assessment: The Astra Model 41 was the flagship of Astra-Unceta y Compania’s large-frame double-action revolver line, developed to compete directly with premium American magnum revolvers such as the Smith & Wesson Model 57 and Ruger Security-Six series. Manufactured in Spain, the Model 41 featured a robust frame, adjustable target sights, and a smooth double-action mechanism capable of handling the powerful .41 Magnum cartridge. Although Astra is best known for its semi-automatic pistols, its double-action revolvers earned a reputation for solid construction, quality machining, and excellent value, making them respected alternatives to their American counterparts. This 1981-production example remains in Excellent condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original blued finish. The metal surfaces exhibit only minor handling and operational wear, highlighted by a crisp cylinder turn line and a few areas of dried storage oil. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating an outstanding 9.75/10 in this writer’s opinion. The checkered wood grips with Astra medallions remain in Excellent condition with only faint handling marks and no chips or cracks. The professionally Mag-Na-Ported 6-inch barrel provides reduced muzzle rise and improved controllability, making this revolver especially well suited for hunting, field carry, or extended range sessions with full-power .41 Magnum ammunition.

Spanish Astra revolvers have become increasingly desirable as quality imports that are no longer in production, and the large-frame magnum models are encountered far less frequently than the company’s semi-automatic pistols. Chambered in the respected .41 Magnum cartridge and enhanced with professional Mag-Na-Port porting, this Model 41 offers an appealing combination of power, shootability, and collectibility. Complete with its factory box and manual, it represents an excellent opportunity for collectors of Spanish firearms or shooters seeking a well-built, uncommon magnum revolver. -R.E.
