Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp.  There is no visible erosion in the bore but there is a bit of lead fouling present.  In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates at a 9.5/10.

Overall Condition:  This revolver shows light holster wear in its stainless steel finish — mainly in the form of frosting on the cylinder.  The balance of the finish shows scattered minor scratches and scuffs.  There is a crisp turn line.  The markings are clear.  Overall, this revolver rates a Fine condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions as intended.  There is very little play with the cylinder upon lockup.  We did not fire this handgun.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:  Smith & Wesson original box.

Our Assessment:  The Smith & Wesson Model 66 is the stainless steel evolution of the classic Model 19 Combat Magnum.  It was produced from 1970 to 2004, and from 2014 to the present.  Like the ’19 it is engineered to handle the full power of .357 Magnum cartridges but offers improved resistance to the elements.  Built on the proven K-frame, the Model 66 became a staple sidearm for law enforcement and armed citizens throughout the 1970s and 1980s due to its ideal balance of size, strength, and shootability.  Engraved models were made for many police and highway patrol outfits.

This is a “no dash” variant of the Model 66.  It was the originally introduced version beginning in 1970 before any of the engineering and production changes that later followed.

This particular model is in Fine condition, having been well taken care of.  It has a good bore and remains mechanically tight.  This Model 66 is a solid example of a classic Stainless Combat Magnum in Fine condition, offering proven performance and enduring appeal to the collector or security professional in search of a proven combat revolver.  Please see our photos.  -C.B.
