The butt is marked “ABD3570”.  The inside of the crane cut is marked “MOD. 651”.  The crane is marked “91513”.  The right side of the frame is marked with the Marcas Registradas.  The left side of the frame is marked with the Smith & Wesson Trademark Logo.

Barrel Length:  4″ Pinned

Sights / Optics:  The front sight is a red-inserted ramped blade on a ramp fixed to the barrel rib.  The rear sight is a flat top, square notch leaf in a micrometer-click base that is adjustable for windage and elevation.  The top of the rib and rear sight base are serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The grips are two-piece checkered Magna stocks with S&W medallions.  There are small scratches and a few areas of finish loss.  The checkering is sharp.  There are no chips or cracks.  Overall, the grips are in a Very Good condition.

Type of Finish:  Stainless

Finish Originality:  Original

Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, though there is a little fouling.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition:  This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered handling marks throughout.  There are two turn lines on the cylinder — one sharp and one faint.  The knurling on the hammer is sharp.  The barrel is lightly frosted.  The screw heads vary from sharp to lightly tooled.  The markings are clear.  Overall, this revolver is in a Very Good Plus condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly.  The single-action trigger is crisp and the double-action smooth.  The cylinder lockup has moderate side-to-side play and a good lockup on all six chambers.  We did not fire this handgun.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.  The cylinder is recessed.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:  S&W revolver box.

Our Assessment:  Smith and Wesson in 1983 produced a double action revolver on the round butt J-frame and chambered in .22 WMR.  They called it the Model 650.  The same year saw a stainless version of the ‘650 that they called the Model 651.

The Model 651, also chambered in .22 WMR, proved to be a superlative kit gun.  It has a 4 inch barrel, stainless resistance to the elements, and .22 Magnum power.  It would function well as a plinker and in a pinch for self-defense.  It weighs only 24 ounces, and so is easy to bring along.

This one is in Very Good Plus condition, is mechanically sound, and would make a trusty companion on your next outdoor adventure.   Please see our photos.
