Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the barrel flat is marked “S” and the right side of the barrel is marked “S. & W. 357 MAGNUM”. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 65-3”. The rear face of the non-recessed cylinder is marked “V”. The left side of the frame has an S&W logo. The right side of the frame is marked with the four line “Marcas Registradas” address. The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks.

Barrel Length: 3 inch heavy barrel

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp pinned to the rib. The rear sight is a notch milled into the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered magna stocks with S&W medallions. There are a few infrequent light marks on the grips. The checkering is strong. The grips rate in about very good overall condition. There are no chips or cracks.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.There is some residual carbon inside the grooves. 9/10 bore rating in this writer’s opinion.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. (Stainless can be easily restored) There are draglines. There is a turn line on the cylinder. There burns on the face of the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp. The action demands a little force to open and close. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action is smooth, the single action is crisp. The lockup has minor play. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This S&W .357 Magnum revolver with its heavy 3” barrel is a true service handgun and can easily be carried openly or concealed. It could serve well for home defense or carry, and as such, would also be suitable for IDPA competition. It is a solid six-shot double-action revolver that can accept a wide variety of ammunition, everything from light .38 Special wadcutters to heavy .357 Magnum hollow points. This gun has nice trigger pulls and a good lockup, it should provide the successful bidder with a lifetime of service and with its high condition and should be a nice addition to a Smith & Wesson collection. So bid high and bid firm.
