Our Assessment: The 629 is a classic revolver that’s been around since the 1970s, based on the original S&W 29 .44 Magnum but made of Stainless Steel. Since its invention it has been a popular choice for hunters, law enforcement officers, movie productions, and revolver enthusiasts.
One of the most notable things about the 629 is that it was designed specifically for the .44 Magnum cartridge, which was a powerful new round that had just been introduced at the time of the original 29 Revolver. The 29 was one of the first guns to be chambered in this cartridge, and it quickly gained a reputation as a reliable and accurate revolver that could handle the high pressures generated by the .44 Magnum.
Over the years, the 629 has gone through several iterations, with improvements being made to the design and materials used.
Overall, the Smith & Wesson 629-1 Revolver is a classic gun that has stood the test of time. Its reputation for reliability and accuracy has made it a favorite among gun enthusiasts, and its history as one of the first guns to be chambered in the powerful .44 Magnum cartridge has cemented its place in firearms history.
