Our Assessment: Smith & Wesson established its Performance Center in 1990 as a specialized division dedicated to producing enhanced revolvers and pistols built with additional hand fitting, precision machining, and performance oriented features. Firearms from the Performance Center are intended to represent the upper tier of Smith & Wesson production, combining the company’s long established revolver designs with refinements that improve accuracy, trigger feel, and overall handling. Many of these revolvers incorporate custom style features that would traditionally only be found on gunsmith tuned firearms, making them especially desirable to enthusiasts who appreciate both performance and craftsmanship.

The Smith & Wesson Model 629-7 is a large-frame revolver chambered in .44 Magnum.  Built on the robust N-frame, this revolver features an 8 3/8-inch barrel — long enough to derive some additional muzzle velocity out of the powerful .44 Mag cartridge.    It includes a 1/8 inch red ramp front sight and a white-outline adjustable rear sight for quick target acquisition.  Its stainless steel provides durability and resistance to harsh environmental conditions.  The revolver comes with Hogue Monogrips ensuring a secure hold and great aesthetics.

The -7 version of the 629 was introduced in 2005 and incorporated a new two-piece barrel design.

This Performance Center Model 629-7 retains nearly all of its original finish with light handling marks and a visible cylinder turn line consistent with use.  It is fitted with Hogue soft rubber stocks with pebbled texture and finger grooves for improved control. With its Performance Center pedigree and long-barreled configuration, this revolver represents a modern high performance variant of Smith & Wesson’s classic big bore magnum revolver design.
