Manufactured by Smith & Wesson, a company with a long-standing reputation for producing high-quality firearms, the 460 stands out as a top-tier revolver suitable for a variety of applications, including hunting, target shooting, and self-defense in wilderness environments.
The defining feature of the 460 is its chambering for the .460 S&W Magnum cartridge. This cartridge is one of the most powerful revolver cartridges available, capable of achieving muzzle velocities exceeding 2,300 feet per second with certain loads.
The second standout feature is its 7.5-inch compensated barrel, which is notably long for a handgun. This extended barrel length enhances the firearm’s accuracy by providing a longer sight radius, better stabilization of the bullet and close to full powder burn.
The barrel also has a chamber brake to reduce recoil and muzzle rise, making it more manageable to shoot despite the powerful cartridge it fires.
