Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “460 S&W Magnum” The left side of the frame is marked with the S&W Monogram. The right side of the barrel is marked “Smith and Wesson”. The right of the frame is marked with the four-line Marcas Registradas. The yoke cut is marked with the serial and model number.
Barrel Length: 2 3/4″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with orange insert pinned to a base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable white outlined square notch that is set into the top strap of the frame. The top strap of the frame is drilled and tapped for a scope base.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece cobblestone Hogue-textured black rubber monogrip with finger grooves and molded S&W logos at the top on each side which fully encloses the grip frame. The grip shows some handling and other wear from use. Overall this grip is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is light fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its original finish. There are scratches and handling wear throughout. There is handling and operational wear throughout. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this revolver is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces very light play on each chamber. The trigger pull is exceptionally crisp with almost no overtravel. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 460 ES, or Extreme Survival, is part of the X-Frame revolver line introduced in the early 2000s to handle some of the most powerful handgun cartridges in production. Chambered in .460 S&W Magnum, this platform was engineered for maximum strength and versatility, capable of firing .460 S&W, .454 Casull, and .45 Colt, offering a wide range of performance levels. The .460 S&W Magnum itself is one of the highest velocity revolver cartridges available, designed for hunting large and dangerous game, and the short-barreled ES variant was conceived as a more compact, defensive-oriented configuration within this powerful lineup.
This example retains approximately 95% of its original stainless steel finish, showing light scratches and handling wear consistent with use. The Hogue rubber monogrip is in Very Good condition, exhibiting minor wear while maintaining its ergonomic shape and recoil-absorbing qualities. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only light fouling, rating 9.5 out of 10, indicating strong internal condition. The revolver is equipped with an orange-insert front sight and an adjustable rear sight, and the top strap is drilled and tapped for optics, providing flexibility for different shooting setups.
Mechanically, the revolver functions correctly with tight lockup showing only minimal play and a notably crisp trigger pull with very little overtravel. The double and single action operation reflects the precision expected from Smith & Wesson’s X-Frame revolvers. Overall, this Model 460 ES presents as a well-maintained example of a powerful and specialized revolver platform, combining compact dimensions with substantial performance capability.
