Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 1076 is a semi-automatic pistol produced by the renowned American firearms manufacturer, Smith & Wesson. Introduced in the late 1980s, the Model 1076 was specifically developed to meet the needs of law enforcement agencies, particularly those seeking a powerful and reliable handgun chambered in the potent 10mm Auto cartridge. The Model 1076 boasts a robust stainless steel construction, providing durability and resistance to corrosion, ensuring longevity even under harsh environmental conditions. This material choice also contributes to the pistol’s weight, helping to mitigate recoil and improve overall handling. In terms of design, the Model 1076 follows the familiar lines of Smith & Wesson’s Third Generation semi-automatic pistols, featuring a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger system with a decocking lever. This configuration allows for both a long, smooth trigger pull for the first shot in double-action mode and a shorter, crisper trigger pull for subsequent shots in single-action mode, enhancing accuracy and control. The pistol features a traditional slide-mounted safety lever, along with a frame-mounted decocker, providing users with multiple options for safely carrying and operating the firearm.

Although the Model 1076 was discontinued from production in the late 1990s due to limited commercial success, it remains highly regarded among firearms enthusiasts for its robust construction, powerful caliber, and reliability. -R.E.
