Our Assessment: Introduced in the late 1980s, the Model 1006 was part of Smith & Wesson’s Third Generation of semi-automatic pistols, which were designed primarily for law enforcement and military use. One of the defining features of the Model 1006 is its chambering in 10mm Auto, a powerful cartridge known for its flat trajectory and impressive stopping power. The 10mm Auto round was originally developed for the FBI, and the Model 1006 was one of the pistols designed to meet the bureau’s specifications. The 10mm cartridge offers excellent ballistic performance, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including self-defense, and law enforcement duty carry. In terms of design, the Model 1006 follows the classic lines of Smith & Wesson’s Third Generation pistols, featuring a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger system with a decocker.

Overall, the Smith & Wesson Model 1006 is a reliable and robust semi-automatic pistol that has earned a reputation for its performance, accuracy, and versatility. -R.E.
