Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. This rifle has a Bullet Button magazine release which requires a tool to remove the magazine. This part can be replaced with a regular magazine release. This rifle’s gas control is currently frozen in place. I was able to unstick the detent but not the gas adjustment itself. This should be easily repaired by properly lubricating the part. This should be repaired by a competent gunsmith prior to use.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes one magazine.
Our Assessment: The SIG SAUER 716 Patrol in .308 Winchester is a robust semi-automatic rifle designed for versatility and reliability in both tactical and sporting applications. Featuring a 16.5-inch barrel with an A2 flash hider, the rifle is optimized to balance manageable recoil with sufficient barrel length for effective .308 ballistics at medium to long ranges. The 716’s gas-piston operating system offers improved reliability over traditional direct impingement systems, reducing fouling in the action and making it ideal for harsher conditions.
Equipped with a quad-rail forend, the SIG 716 provides ample space for mounting accessories such as optics, grips, lights, and lasers, allowing users to customize the rifle to their specific needs. The SIG pistol grip is ergonomically designed for comfort and control, while the SIG collapsible stock offers adjustability to tailor the length of pull, making it well-suited for various shooting positions and user preferences.
The 716 series, known for its durable construction, offers the stopping power of the .308 round in a semi-automatic platform, making it popular with law enforcement and recreational shooters alike. It is versatile enough to perform well in both close-quarters situations and at longer distances, bridging the gap between AR-15-style rifles and larger, traditional battle rifles.
