Our Assessment: The SIG Sauer P229 is one of the company’s well-regarded compact service pistol designs, developed as a durable double-action/single-action semi-automatic capable of handling duty cartridges in a more compact format than the full-size P226. This Elite Stainless example is chambered in .40 S&W, a cartridge introduced in the early 1990s and widely adopted for law enforcement and defensive use, offering a heavier projectile than 9mm while remaining in a semi-automatic pistol platform. This pistol features a 3.9″ barrel, DA/SA operation with decocker, stainless alloy finish, tritium three-dot sights, checkered laminate wood grips with SIG medallions, and one 12-round factory magazine. The Elite Stainless configuration, classic SIG DA/SA operating system, .40 S&W chambering, and attractive wood grips should appeal to buyers looking for a robust defensive, range, or collectible SIG pistol.
