Markings: The right side of the slide is marked with the serial number followed by a German proof, “P226 S”, and “DE”. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number, “DE”, and a German proof. The right side of the chamber is marked “9mmPara”. The left side of the slide is marked “SIG SAUER”, “MADE IN GERMANY”, and “SIG SAUER INC. / EXETER – NH”. Both sides of the grips are marked “SIG SAUER”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a serrated rear face and is dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is a fully adjustable square notch with a serrated rear face and is pinned to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered wood Sig Sauer panels that envelop the back strap and leave the front strap exposed. There is no significant wear or damage. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is some operation wear on the barrel hood. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are sharp. Overall, this handgun rates in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is light and crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included with this pistol is a factory hard case within a cardboard box with matching end label, manual and test target, takedown tool, safety lock, and two 10-round mags.
Our Assessment: The P226 is a time-tested platform that has seen use in militaries and law enforcement agencies alike. With its reputation for reliability and durability, you can’t go wrong with it. It was developed for U.S. military trials when the military wanted a 9mm service pistol and only lost the bid because of the total package price. While it did not win the contract, the U.S. Navy Seals liked what they saw and decided to adopt the pistol.
