Our Assessment: This Shiloh Sharps 1874 Quigley style rifle is a distinctive and highly sought-after rifle that pays homage to the iconic firearm featured in the 1990 film “Quigley Down Under,” starring Tom Selleck. Shiloh Rifle Manufacturing Company, known for its dedication to historical accuracy and exceptional craftsmanship, produces this special edition rifle. This 1874 is a faithful reproduction of the Sharps rifle used by Selleck’s character, Matthew Quigley, and it embodies the spirit and rugged elegance of the American frontier. This example is not chambered in the movie correct 45-110 but instead in the more manageable 45-90 caliber. One of the most striking features of this rifle is its 34″ heavy octagon barrel. The long, octagonal shape not only enhances the rifle’s aesthetic appeal but also provides additional weight and stability, contributing to its exceptional accuracy. This rifle features a straight hand military style stock and a Hartford style forend cap, adding to its historical authenticity and visual appeal. The rifle is equipped with a traditional double-set trigger, a hallmark of precision Sharps rifles. The double-set trigger allows the shooter to “set” the front trigger for an exceptionally light and crisp pull, enhancing accuracy by minimizing any disturbance to the rifle when the shot is fired. In terms of sights, this rifle is outfitted with a globe front sight with spirit level and a soule tang sight with a long range staff and windage adjustment. In summary, this Shiloh Sharps 1874 Quigley style rifle in .45-90 is a beautifully crafted and historically accurate rifle that captures the essence of the hero firearm from “Quigley Down Under.” The attention to detail in its construction, along with its cultural significance, ensures that this rifle is not only a functional and accurate firearm but also a dream gun for fans of the iconic film.
