Markings: The tang is marked “2826B”.The top of the barrel is marked “Shiloh-Sharps Model 1874” and “CALIBRE 45 / 21/10”. The left side of the receiver is marked “SHILOH RIFLE MFG. CO. BIG TIMBER, MONTANA.”.
Barrel Length: 28” Heavy round barrel. The rifle weighs 11lbs 10OZ.
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a globe front sight with no insert. The rear sight is an MVA Soule tang sight with a mid range staff and small eye disc mounted to the upper tang. This is a premium sight set. The front sight inserts are easily obtainable from Montana Vintage Arms.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a two piece smooth walnut. The forend is a round profile pewter / Hartford tipped forend. The stock is a straight hand with fluted straight comb and case colored butt plate and patch box. The LOP measures 14.25″ from the front of the front trigger to the back of the butt plate. The Hartford tip shows some minor surface lines/marks common with that type of finish. The wood shows scattered light handling marks with small compressions and a small scratch on the left side near the rear trigger. The leading edge of the comb has the typical marks from the eye disc on the tang sight. The butt plate shows no wear but does show a few small spots of rust freckles. There are no visible chips or cracks. The Furniture is in about Very Good+ overall condition.
Type of Finish: The barrel and sights are blued and the receiver, lever, tangs, butt plate, patch box, and hammer are case color.
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion. If this rifle has been fired outside of testing it was very little. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains 98% of its finish. The barrel shows very minor handling marks. The action is very clean. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. The lower tang shows a small mark from the lever. The case color areas show some small scattered rust spots. The set trigger is frozen in place and does not currently function. This will need to be repaired by a competent gunsmith. The front trigger still functions. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition and would rate higher if not for the set trigger being stuck.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly apart from the noted set trigger issue. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
