Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “U”-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. The top of the receiver is grooved for an optic mount (none present).
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stocks are two-piece walnut with a flat-bottom grooved slide handle, semi-pistol grip, straight comb and checkered black hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The stocks have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has light wear, mostly at the heel and toe, with well defined checkering and lettering. Overall, the stocks are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are only a few scattered minor marks and faint operational wear. The markings are clear. The screwheads are sharp. Overall, the rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box Paperwork and Accessories: This rifle comes in a two-piece cardboard Winchester box with serial-matching label, manual, warranty card, and a factory hang-tag on the trigger guard.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 61 is a pump-action rifle chambered for .22 rimfire rounds that was introduced in 1932 and remained on the market until the mid-1960s. Winchester’s exposed hammer pump-action rifles were becoming increasingly obsolete by the 1930s, other companies introduced hammerless variants that were growing in popularity. Winchester responded with the Model 61, a hammerless design that was meant to compete with the other companies and attract young shooters. The gun failed to meet a serious market niche and was introduced during a turbulent period (the Great Depression). Despite this the gun was on the market for several decades and proved itself a stalwart design.

This specimen is in quite Excellent condition, appearing to have spent most of its life in the included factory box. All of the Winchester rimfire pump rifles are collectible, and the better the condition the more desirable. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a 61 in better shape than this one, and its box makes it all the more special to the collectors. Even if you’re not a collector, good luck finding a modern pump .22 of the same quality!
