Markings: Left side of this receiver is stamped with the “SGW” (Stop Sign) Logo “CAL. 223. 5.56 / MOD. CAR-AR / A2-U1398”, “OLYMPIC ARMS / OLY WA USA” and “FIRE SAFE” around the safety selector. The top of the barrel is marked “SS / 5.56”.
Barrel Length: 16.1 with integral flash hider
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable A1 style front sight. The rear sight is an A1 Style flip dual aperture sight in the carry handle.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The buttstock is a collapsible black painted aluminum buttstock with sling ring and slot, and integral checkered buttplate. The pistol grip is polymer with wide grip serrations on the flanks, finger groove, and storage compartment. The handguard is a standard carbine length A2 handguard with heat shields. The LOP measures 13.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the stock at full extension. Overall the stocks rate in Very Good condition. There is finish wear on the delta ring. There are a few handling marks on the handguard. There are no chips or cracks.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows mild operation wear but the bolt and bolt head appear new. There are scratches on the barrel and front sight as well has on the edges of the carry handle. The pins are unmarred. The markings are clear and visible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition. The safety spring is missing so the safety is loose. The spring will need to be replaced to restore this gun to proper functionality.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This SGW Olympic Arms AR, not in particular but in general, was the first alternative to the Colt production of AR-15’s. Olympic Arms began their aspiring career in 1956 through high quality barrel production and began manufacturing their very own AR-15 rifles in 1982. Their first batches of AR-15’s earned them the reputation as one of the most trusted and reputable companies in the firearms scene. SGW, now Olympic Arms, from the start is known for their high quality firearms and this Modern AR-15 is no different. This one with its new bolt will make an excellent home defense gun or new range toy. It just needs some lubrication and a new safety spring and it’ll be almost as good as new!
