Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “Savage Model 99 Series A, Westfield, Mass, USA, Cal .358”. The left side of the receiver is marked “Savage Model 99 A”. The receiver is marked on the left side with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 22″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a base that is soldered to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable folding U notch that is dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth walnut, finger grooved forend, straight grip, straight comb, and rubber recoil pad. The LOP is 13 1/2″ from trigger to buttplate. Sling mounts have been added. There is light handling wear. There is a hairline crack on the right side of the stock near the receiver. Overall this stock is in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The rifling is sharp. There are a few spots of light corrosion and pitting. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 8/10.

There are a few light scratches on the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Savage Model 99A is a classic lever-action rifle manufactured in 1976 and chambered in the hard-hitting .358 Winchester cartridge. Condition is Good to Very Good overall, with the rifle retaining about 95% of its original blued and color-case finish. The metal shows light handling wear, minor scratches, and a few light corrosion stains on the lever, but markings remain clear and the screw heads are sharp. The walnut stock is in Good condition, showing light handling wear, sling mounts added, and a notable hairline crack on the right side near the receiver. While not structurally severe, the crack is an important condition factor and should be monitored or stabilized to prevent progression.
The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling, though a few light spots of corrosion and pitting are present, rating 8/10 in this writer’s opinion.
