Our Assessment:  The Savage Model 1895 75th Anniversary Commemorative, produced in 1970, was introduced to celebrate Savage’s early lever action heritage, specifically the original Model 1895 that would evolve into the iconic Model 1899 and later Model 99 series. These commemorative rifles combined traditional styling cues with modern production methods, offering a blend of historical homage and contemporary performance. Chambered in .308 Winchester, a cartridge introduced in the 1950s and widely regarded for its efficiency and versatility, the rifle reflects a modern sporting configuration paired with a design lineage rooted in late 19th century innovation.

This example retains approximately 95% of its original finish, with only minor handling marks and light wear visible throughout. The blued metal shows some areas of discoloration on the receiver, while the plated lever and crescent buttplate exhibit light thinning consistent with use. The rifle is fitted with a brass blade front sight and a folding rear sight, along with a receiver-mounted peep sight installed in the rear scope base holes. The walnut stocks feature a schnabel forend, straight grip, and commemorative medallion, and show only minor wear such as light compression marks and surface handling, remaining in Very Good to Excellent condition overall.

The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9.5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion, with only minor fouling present. The action functions correctly, and the internal rotary magazine with cartridge counter remains operational, preserving one of the defining features of Savage lever action rifles. Overall, this commemorative Model 1895 stands as a well-preserved example of a limited-production tribute rifle, combining historical styling with modern chambering and strong overall condition.
