Serial Number: CCCP72368, added by the importer. The original serial number contains 2 Russian characters and ends in 301.

Markings: The import mark on the left side of the receiver contains the new serial number. It reads “SKS 7.62X39 / C.D.I. SWAN. VT”, “MADE IN RUSSIA” and “CCCP72368”. The top cover is marked the Tula Arsenal symbol “arrow in a star” and “1953r”. The “r” stands for “year” in Russian. The left side of the receiver, the top of the bolt body, the rear of the top cover, the bottom of the trigger guard, the bottom of the magazine and the left side of the buttstock are all marked with the original serial number. Several of the metal parts are marked with various small proofs and Russian stampings. The left side of the stock is marked with 4 “diamond” inspection stamps around the through bolt. The right side of the buttstock is marked with a Tula Arsenal inspector’s stamp that resembles a “circled 10 with a line through it”. The left side of the buttstock is marked with the Tula Arsenal “arrow in a star” and “1953r”. The butt is marked with various small Russian stampings.

Barrel Length: Approximately 20 1/2 inches.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable, hooded post. The rear sight is a “U” notched sliding sight escalator marked from “1 – 10” and “n”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood stock has a pistol grip, finger grooves, scallop for the safety, ventilated handguard, metal nose caps, cutout for the included folding bayonet, hole for the included cleaning rod, through bolt, sling loop and a metal butt plate with a spring loaded door for storage. A metal tube with cleaning gear is stored in the butt. The wood shows various scrapes & scratches. A few areas of the finish have been dulled by scuffs. The LOP measures 12 ½ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright; semi bright at the muzzle. The rifling is deep. There is a small area of light erosion in one of the grooves at the muzzle.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The barrel & magazine show light scrapes. The front of the barrel shows scrapes from mounting the bayonet. The top cover shows light discoloration and light scratches. The receiver shows light scrapes & small scratches. The screws are intact. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. The bayonet locks into place correctly. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork& Accessories: A metal tube with cleaning gear is stored in the butt. It shows light scrapes and is in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: This Russian SKS 45 was made back in 1953 at the Tula Arsenal. It is in great shape. It has matching part numbers and large Tula Arsenal “stars” on the top cover & the buttstock. The bore is strong & bright and metal & wood have deep markings that add to the rifles historical value. This is a Nice Russian SKS that is will add to your Military or Cold War collection.
