Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable post with protective wings. The rear sight is a “U” notched leaf sliding sight escalator. The left side of the receiver has a side mounted optic rail for your AK style optics.

Stock Configuration & Condition: This rifle has a two piece synthetic stock set with a finger grooved forend, checkered semi pistol grip, straight comb, and synthetic smooth buttplate. There are light scratches and compression marks throughout. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock set rates in about Very Good condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: One 10rd Magazine in Very Good Condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9 out of 10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling and operational wear. There are a few light scratches throughout.There is operational wear on the side mounted optic rail and from the safety switch. The screw heads are sharp and pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.  

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Izhmash Saiga is a Russian semi-automatic sporting rifle developed around the proven Kalashnikov system and produced in a variety of sporting configurations and chamberings. .223 Remington is a documented Saiga chambering, and Kalashnikov’s own civilian technical documentation continues to identify .223 Rem Saiga variants as well as the characteristic receiver-mounted side optics rail. This example retains the traditional import-style sporting configuration with fixed synthetic furniture, a 16.25″ barrel, iron sights, and a detachable 10-round magazine. Its Russian Izhmash manufacture and relatively unaltered sporting configuration give it appeal as an example of the commercially imported Saiga rifle family.

This rifle rates in about Very Good overall condition and retains approximately 98% of its original black metal finish. The metal shows only light handling and operational wear, including a few light scratches and wear at the side optics rail and safety-selector path. The two-piece synthetic furniture rates in about Very Good condition with light scratches and compression marks, well-defined checkering, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no reported erosion, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, though the rifle was not test fired. It comes with one 10-round magazine in Very Good condition. With its strong remaining original finish, excellent bore, Russian manufacture, and classic Saiga sporting configuration, this is an attractive example for the collector of Russian and Kalashnikov-pattern firearms.
