Our Assessment: The Kalashnikov Concern Saiga rifle, produced at the Izhevsk Arsenal and imported under the Legion name, is a civilian sporting adaptation of the AKM pattern. Built on the same long-stroke gas piston system that made the Kalashnikov design famous, the Saiga retains the core reliability and durability of its military counterpart while incorporating a sporterized stock configuration to meet import requirements. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, introduced in the 1940s, the rifle delivers proven intermediate-cartridge performance with manageable recoil and broad availability, making it one of the most widely used calibers in the world.

This example presents in strong overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original finish with only light handling and operational wear visible, including typical finish wear from the safety selector. The synthetic sporter stock remains in fine condition with minor surface marks but no structural issues, maintaining its factory configuration. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, and the rifle retains its standard AK-pattern sighting system, including the adjustable front post and tangent rear sight, along with a left-side optics rail for mounting. Altogether, this Izhevsk-produced Saiga represents a well-maintained example of a Russian-made civilian AK-pattern rifle with direct lineage to one of the most recognized firearm designs in history.
