Our Assessment: The Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .454 Casull/.45 Colt is a rugged and powerful revolver, tailored for those requiring a dependable firearm in wilderness settings, particularly for protection against large predators. Distinct from its larger Super Redhawk counterpart due to its shorter barrel, the Alaskan variant offers a more compact and portable design, making it well-suited for carry in dense and challenging terrains. Its capability to chamber the high-powered .454 Casull rounds ensures formidable stopping power, vital for defense in remote areas, while also offering the flexibility to shoot the less intense .45 Colt rounds for more routine use or practice.
Constructed to withstand the substantial recoil and pressures of the .454 Casull cartridge, the Super Redhawk Alaskan is built with a durable stainless steel frame. It features a robust, reinforced design complete with a triple-locking cylinder to ensure stability and precision. The cushioned grip is a thoughtful addition, aiding in recoil absorption and enhancing the shooter’s comfort and control. This combination of strength and ergonomics underscores the revolver’s reliability and safety in demanding situations.
Designed with practicality in mind, the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan’s shorter barrel, often around 2.5 inches, makes it an ideal companion for outdoor enthusiasts. Its fixed sights add to the revolver’s ruggedness, minimizing the risk of damage or snagging in rough conditions. These attributes make the Super Redhawk Alaskan not just a powerful defensive tool, but also a highly practical choice for those seeking a compact, hardy revolver for safety and security in the wilderness.
