The stocks show light wear, with a few light scratches and compressions, most notably on the bottom of the forend. The checkering is well defined. The stock’s finish is intact, and the wood grain is attractive. The stocks fit tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some minor fouling present in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor handling wear, with one very minor ding on the muzzle. Otherwise, there is no other notable wear. The bluing is deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads on the rifle are sharp, but the screw heads on the scope rings are heavily tooled. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang mounted safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the sling and scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Ruger’s No. 1 is a classic single-shot falling-block sporting rifle, admired for its strong action, elegant profile, and appeal to hunters and riflemen who appreciate deliberate, accurate shooting. The No. 1B configuration, with its 26″ barrel and wide forend, is well suited to open-country hunting and target work. This 1996 example is chambered in .25-06 Remington, a flat-shooting, mild-recoiling cartridge valued for varmint, antelope, deer, and other medium-game hunting where velocity and trajectory are important. This rifle features a 26″ barrel, blued finish, quarter rib with Ruger rings, Simmons 8-Point 3-9×40 scope, checkered walnut stocks, and leather sling. The classic falling-block action, attractive walnut, excellent bore, and versatile .25-06 chambering should appeal to Ruger collectors, hunters, and shooters looking for a refined single-shot sporting rifle.

This rifle rates in Fine to Excellent overall condition, retaining about 99% of its original blued finish with only minor handling wear and one very small ding on the muzzle. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only minor fouling in the grooves, rating 10/10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut stocks rate in Fine condition, showing a few light scratches and compressions, most notably on the bottom of the forend, while retaining attractive grain, intact finish, well-defined checkering, tight fit, and no chips or cracks. The bluing remains deep, dark, and intact throughout, the markings are clear and legible, and the screw heads are sharp, however, the screw heads on the scope rings are heavily tooled. The Simmons scope rates in Good condition with clear glass and exterior scratches and dings, and the action and tang-mounted safety function correctly.
