Our Assessment: This Ruger New Vaquero “The Last Cowboy” is a handsome TALO distributor exclusive chambered in .45 Colt, pairing Ruger’s modern single-action durability with Old West styling and limited-edition collector appeal. TALO lists the Last Cowboy Deluxe as a discontinued Vaquero variant in .45 Colt, making this revolver more desirable than a standard production New Vaquero. The New Vaquero line was introduced with proportions closer to the classic Colt Single Action Army while retaining Ruger’s modern transfer-bar safety system, allowing the revolver to be safely carried with all six chambers loaded. With its stainless finish, 5.5-inch barrel, factory paisley engraving, “The Last Cowboy” gripframe marking, and checkered walnut “LC” grips, this revolver has strong visual appeal for Ruger collectors and cowboy-action enthusiasts alike. This example remains in Excellent condition, retaining approximately 99% of its stainless finish with only faint scratches and light handling marks. The cylinder shows a crisp turn line and burn marks on the face, indicating light use while still preserving a sharp overall presentation. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9.5/10. The checkered walnut Ruger “LC” grips are also in Excellent condition, showing no notable handling wear, chips, or cracks. The revolver includes its original gray Ruger hard case, paperwork, test-fire packet, and safety keys, adding considerably to its value as a collectible TALO edition.
For collectors of Ruger single actions, TALO exclusives, and modern cowboy-style revolvers, this New Vaquero “The Last Cowboy” offers a strong combination of condition, presentation, and completeness. The .45 Colt chambering is the classic choice for a Western-style single-action revolver, and the 5.5-inch barrel gives the gun excellent balance for display, recreational shooting, or cowboy-action use. With its factory engraving, special grips, original accessories, and high-condition stainless finish, this revolver stands out as a desirable modern collectible rather than an ordinary working Vaquero. -R.E.
