Our Assessment: This Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter revolver, manufactured in 2006, represents a purpose-built hunting variant of Ruger’s large-frame single-action revolver line. The Super Blackhawk platform has long been associated with strength and durability, designed to handle powerful magnum cartridges, while the Bisley configuration adds an ergonomic grip frame, lowered hammer, and wider trigger for improved control under recoil. The Hunter model further enhances the platform with an integral barrel rib cut for Ruger scope rings, allowing for easy optic mounting without additional modification. The 7.5 inch barrel provides increased velocity and a longer sight radius, making it well suited for hunting applications. This revolver is chambered in .44 Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1955 and widely regarded for its power and effectiveness in handgun hunting. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, earning a rating of 9.5 out of 10. The revolver retains approximately 99 percent of its original stainless finish with only light handling wear, including a crisp cylinder turn line and minor burn marks on the cylinder face. The Bisley grip panels remain in Excellent condition, though they are noted as replacements rather than original to the revolver.
This revolver includes its original Ruger hard case, paperwork, and a pair of factory Ruger scope rings. The screw heads remain sharp, the pins are unmarred, and the markings are clear and well defined. Overall, this Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter stands as a well-maintained example of a modern hunting revolver, combining Ruger’s robust construction with ergonomic enhancements and optics-ready capability. -R.E.
