Our Assessment: The Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Convertible represents a modern interpretation of the classic American single-action magnum revolver, combining Ruger’s robust large-frame design with the versatility of interchangeable cylinders. Built to handle powerful magnum cartridges while retaining traditional single-action operation and western styling, the Super Blackhawk became one of the most respected large-frame revolvers of the late 20th century. This convertible variant offers both .44 Remington Magnum and .44-40 Winchester cylinders, allowing the revolver to bridge modern magnum performance with one of the most historically significant revolver cartridges of the Old West era. This example, manufactured in 1990, remains in excellent overall condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original blued finish with only faint handling marks and a light cylinder turn line visible from operation. The bore remains strong, showing sharp rifling and only minor fouling, supporting its 9 out of 10 rating. The walnut grip panels remain in very good plus condition with only minor edge chipping visible and no structural cracking present. Both unfluted cylinders are included along with the original Ruger box and paperwork, significantly enhancing the revolver’s overall completeness and collector appeal.
Altogether, this Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Convertible represents a highly desirable variation of Ruger’s classic single-action revolver platform. Its dual-cylinder configuration, long barrel profile, and powerful chamberings reflect the enduring appeal of large-frame western-style revolvers among shooters and collectors alike. The revolver stands as a strong example of Ruger’s durable and highly regarded approach to modern single-action revolver design during the late 20th century. -R.E.
