Our Assessment: The Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .327 Federal Magnum is one of the more interesting modern single-action revolvers produced by Ruger, offering an 8-shot cylinder in a flat-shooting magnum chambering. The .327 Federal Magnum provides impressive velocity, mild recoil compared to larger magnum cartridges, and excellent versatility, with the ability to also fire compatible .32-caliber revolver cartridges. Built on Ruger’s strong New Model Blackhawk platform with adjustable sights and a 5.5-inch barrel, this revolver is well suited for field use, range work, small-game hunting, and shooters who appreciate uncommon modern revolver chamberings. This example remains in Excellent condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original stainless finish with light handling marks, thin scratches, a crisp cylinder turn line, faint operational wear, and carbon fouling on the cylinder face. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no visible erosion, and rates 9.75/10. The two-piece checkered Altamont laminate grips remain in Excellent Plus condition with sharp checkering, little to no handling wear, and no chips or cracks. The action functions correctly and is noted as having a lightened mainspring.
For Ruger collectors and single-action revolver shooters, this .327 Federal Magnum Blackhawk offers a desirable mix of capacity, performance, and versatility. The 8-shot cylinder gives it a notable advantage over traditional 6-shot single actions, while the .327 chambering provides excellent accuracy potential and useful ballistic performance with manageable recoil. With its high-condition stainless finish, strong bore, upgraded grips, included leather holster, and uncommon chambering, this Blackhawk is a practical shooter and a distinctive addition to a modern Ruger collection. -R.E.
