Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 Mark II All-Weather represents the rugged evolution of Bill Ruger’s controlled round feed bolt action, combining Mauser style claw extraction with stainless construction and the distinctive Zytel “Boat Paddle” stock. Introduced in the early 1990s, the All-Weather models were purpose built for hard use in adverse climates, offering corrosion resistance and practical durability without sacrificing the reliability for which the M77 line is known. Chambered in .308 Winchester, a cartridge introduced in 1952 and prized for its efficiency, accuracy, and versatility across North American big game, this rifle pairs proven action design with one of the most balanced sporting calibers ever developed.
This 1991 example retains approximately 98 percent of its original stainless finish with only light handling marks and minor operational wear on the bolt. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The synthetic Boat Paddle stock shows light wear and cosmetic oxidation consistent with age but remains structurally sound and tightly fitted. Stainless Ruger rings are included, along with a sling. A durable, weather resistant hunting rifle built around a controlled round feed action and chambered in the ever dependable .308 Winchester.
