Serial Number: 786-50543

Year of Manufacture: 2000

Caliber: .260 Remington

Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine, Hinged Floorplate.

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Ruger’s 2-line warning and address. The left side of the barrel is marked “260 REM”. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “RUGER M77 MARK II”.

Barrel Length: 22″

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10×44 scope, with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a few dings on the leading edge of the objective, and minor finish loss on the zoom dial. Otherwise, the scope rates in Very Good condition. The scope is mounted directly to the receiver by 1″ Ruger rings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber Ruger buttpad, a checkered and capped forend, and sling rings front and rear. There is a rubber sling attached to the stock. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with light scratches, dings, scuffs, and compressions scattered throughout. The checkering is mostly well defined, with a couple minor dings landing in the checkering. The stock’s finish is largely intact, and the stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. The front sling stud hole on the bottom of the forend has been filled, and a barrel mounted sling stud was installed as a replacement. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.75/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear with a few light scratches and dings scattered throughout the metal surfaces, most notably on the barrel and floorplate. Otherwise, the bluing is deep, dark, and intact. There is light operational wear on the bolt, and friction surfaces of the action. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are lightly tooled, but all retain serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the sling and the scope as mentioned above, along with its original serial number matching box.

Our Assessment: Ruger’s M77 Mark II is a rugged American bolt-action sporting rifle, building on the original M77 design with controlled-round-feed-style operation, integral scope mounting provisions, and a three-position safety. This 2000 example is chambered in .260 Remington, an efficient 6.5mm cartridge known for mild recoil, good ballistic performance, and strong usefulness for deer-sized game, predators, and target shooting. This rifle features a 22″ barrel, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, checkered walnut stock, Ruger scope rings, rubber sling, and a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10×44 scope with clear glass. The desirable .260 Remington chambering, classic walnut-and-blue Ruger configuration, quality Zeiss optic, and strong bore should appeal to hunters looking for a practical and refined field rifle with good reach and manageable recoil.

This rifle rates in Very Good overall condition, retaining about 95% of its original blued finish. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only light fouling present, rating 9.75/10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut stock rates in Very Good condition, showing light scratches, dings, scuffs, and compressions, with a couple marks in the checkering, a largely intact finish, tight fit, and no chips or cracks; the original front sling stud hole has been filled, and a barrel-mounted sling stud has been installed. The metal shows light scratches and dings, most notably on the barrel and floorplate, with light operational wear on the bolt and action friction surfaces, though the bluing remains deep, dark, and intact overall. The Zeiss scope rates in Very Good condition with light wear, including a few dings on the objective edge and minor finish loss on the zoom dial. The markings are clear and legible, the screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable, and the action and safety function correctly. This rifle comes with the sling, scope, and its original serial number matching box. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
