Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Ruger’s 2-line warning & address. The left side of the barrel is marked “338 FEDERAL”, along with a proof mark. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “RUGER M77 HAWKEYE”.
Barrel Length: 22″ Matte Stainless
Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9×40 scope, with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light handling wear. The top turret cap is missing. Overall, the scope rates in Very Good condition. The scope is mounted directly to the receiver by 1″ Ruger rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered synthetic stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black rubber Ruger buttpad, a checkered forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with only a few minor scratches scattered throughout, mainly on the bottom of the forend. The checkering is well defined, and the stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with light scratches, scuffs and dings scattered throughout the metal surfaces, most notably on the barrel. There are a few minor freckles of surface corrosion scattered about the barrel. Otherwise, the stainless finish is intact. There is light operational wear on the bolt and on the friction surfaces of the action. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tooled, but all retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Ruger’s M77 Hawkeye continued the company’s rugged bolt-action sporting rifle tradition, with the All-Weather configuration adding matte stainless construction and synthetic furniture for field durability in rough conditions. This 2007 example is chambered in .338 Federal, a practical .308-based cartridge designed to launch heavier .338-caliber bullets with moderate recoil and good short- to medium-range hunting performance. This rifle features a 22″ matte stainless barrel, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, checkered synthetic stock, integral Ruger scope mounting system, and a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9×40 scope with clear glass mounted in 1″ Ruger rings. The stainless All-Weather configuration, useful Nikon optic, strong Ruger action, and hard-hitting .338 Federal chambering should appeal to hunters looking for a durable woods, elk, bear, or general big-game rifle.
This rifle rates in Very Good overall condition, retaining about 90% of its original matte stainless finish. The synthetic stock rates in Excellent condition, showing only a few minor scratches, mainly on the bottom of the forend, while retaining well-defined checkering, tight fit to the barreled action, and no chips or cracks. The metal shows light scratches, scuffs, and dings scattered throughout, most notably on the barrel, with a few minor freckles of surface corrosion and light operational wear on the bolt and action friction surfaces. The Nikon scope rates in Very Good condition with clear glass and light handling wear, though the top turret cap is missing. The markings are clear and legible, the screw heads range from sharp to lightly tooled but remain serviceable, and the action and safety function correctly.
