Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Ruger’s 2-line warning & address. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “RUGER GUNSITE SCOUT”. The left side of the receiver is marked “308 WIN”.
Barrel Length: 16.5″, 18.5″ with Flash Hider. Threaded 5/8×24.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a protected blade, pinned to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable aperture peep sight. The top of the receiver is notched for Ruger scope rings. The top of the barrel is mounted with a 6″ picatinny rail.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece textured synthetic stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, serrated rubber buttpad, a textured forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP is adjustable by adding or removing plastic shims. The LOP measures 13 3/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad in its current configuration. The stock shows only minor superficial handling and storage wear throughout. The texturing on the wrist and forend is well defined. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play, while keeping the barrel free-floating. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only minor operational and handling wear on the friction surfaces of the action, otherwise, there is no notable wear. The finish is intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, two additional LOP shims, gun lock, and Ruger scope rings.
Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 Gunsite Scout was developed in cooperation with Gunsite Academy and reflects the practical scout rifle concept popularized in the late 20th century. Built around the controlled-round-feed M77 action, this model combines a compact 16.5 inch barrel, detachable box magazine system, forward mounted Picatinny rail, and rugged aperture sights in a lightweight, fast-handling package. Chambered in .308 Winchester, a cartridge introduced in the 1950s and long respected for its efficiency, accuracy, and balanced ballistic performance, the platform remains one of the most versatile general-purpose rifle configurations available.
This 2013 example remains in Fine to Excellent condition, retaining approximately 99 percent of its original matte blued finish with only minor operational wear on the action’s friction surfaces. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10. The synthetic stock shows only light superficial handling marks and remains tight to the barreled action with a free-floating barrel. The rifle includes its original serial number matching box, Ruger scope rings, gun lock, and two additional length-of-pull shims, though no magazine is included.
