Our Assessment: The Ruger 77/22 is a bolt-action rimfire built with many of the proportions and handling characteristics of a centerfire sporting rifle, while using Ruger’s dependable detachable rotary magazine system. This K77/22-VMBZ is a particularly attractive .22 WMR configuration, pairing a 24″ barrel and Target Gray metal finish with a checkered laminate stock. The .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire chambering provides considerably more velocity and energy than the .22 LR, making this rifle a capable choice for small game, varmints, and general field use while retaining the mild recoil and convenience of a rimfire.
This rifle is in Fine condition overall, retaining about 98% of its original Target Gray finish with only a couple of light scratches on the trigger guard. The checkered laminate stock remains in Fine to Excellent condition with only minor storage marks, an intact finish, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, while the action and safety function correctly. It includes an Excellent-condition factory 9-round rotary magazine, a pair of 1″ Ruger scope rings, its serial-number-matching factory box, and gun lock. This is a particularly nice example of Ruger’s distinctive Target Gray 77/22 Magnum configuration.
