Our Assessment: The Ruger 77/357 is part of Ruger’s rotary-magazine bolt-action series designed specifically for revolver cartridges. Built on the proven Model 77 action architecture, the 77/357 combines controlled-feed reliability with compatibility for Ruger’s detachable rotary magazines. Introduced to offer a compact, hard-hitting carbine alternative in straight-wall and revolver chamberings, the model has developed a following among hunters and shooters seeking a lightweight, fast-handling bolt-action rifle.

Chambered in .357 Magnum, this rifle pairs the 18 1/2 inch barrel with a cartridge originally introduced in the 1930s for revolvers but later adapted to carbine-length barrels for increased velocity and energy. In a rifle platform, the .357 Magnum benefits from improved ballistic performance while maintaining manageable recoil. The factory fiber optic front sight and adjustable rear sight provide traditional sighting options, while the mounted Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4×20 scope complements the rifle’s intended role as a short- to medium-range hunting carbine.

This 2018 example presents in very good overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original stainless finish with only light handling wear visible. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, the Boyd’s laminate stock is clean and tightly fitted, and four factory magazines are included. With its mounted optic and included soft case, this Ruger 77/357 stands as a well-equipped and well-maintained example of a modern revolver-cartridge bolt-action rifle.
