Our Assessment: The Ruger All Weather 77/17 is a bolt-action rifle known for its durability, precision, and adaptability to various environmental conditions. Part of Ruger’s famous Model 77 series, the 77/17 was specifically designed to chamber the .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (HMR) cartridge, a small-caliber, high-velocity round that has gained popularity for varmint and small game hunting due to its accuracy and minimal risk of over-penetration.
One of the standout features of the All Weather 77/17 is its construction, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. This is achieved through the use of stainless steel for the barrel and action, coupled with a synthetic stock, which together provide excellent resistance to moisture and temperature variations. This makes the rifle a great choice for hunters and shooters who frequently find themselves in challenging outdoor environments.
The rifle’s bolt-action mechanism is known for its smooth operation and reliability, contributing to the 77/17’s reputation for precision shooting. Additionally, the rifle comes with Ruger’s integral scope mounts, machined directly on the solid-steel receiver, providing a stable mounting surface for scope rings and thus ensuring accuracy. The Ruger All Weather 77/17 combines the high performance of the .17 HMR cartridge with rugged, weather-resistant construction, making it a favored rifle among those who demand reliability and precision in their outdoor shooting pursuits.
