Our Assessment: Okay, let’s get this out of the way: the PSL 54-C is not the same as the Dragunov. Two different countries, two “slightly” different marksman rifles. Yes, they have similar thin, long barrels and wood furniture that includes thumbhole stocks and AK-style controls, but the PSL came second and took inspiration from the Dragunov sniper rifle. They’re not the same guns. They do use the same 7.62x54R caliber. Another big difference between what some consider warring cousins are the receivers. The PSL is made like its mini-me (the AKM) with stamped receivers versus Russia’s machined receivers for its Dragunov rifles. As it is, the PSL isn’t something to snub your nose at. These rifles were originally issued to the best marksman in each platoon, trained and tasked with engaging high value targets while also providing general fire support. Today, this Cold War era Com Bloc sniper rifle offers both practical uses and historic significance to whoever wins this lot. It’s a rugged and reliable design that you want in your collection!
